Skoda has shown the all-new Superb sedan for the first time in front of a global audience at the Geneva Motor Show. Show in February 2015 at a private event in Prague, this is clearly the Czech automaker's attempt at bridging the economy and premium markets. Using the MQB platform and all the cool technologies that come with it, engineers have done a very impressive job in terms of ergonomics with a cabin that could rival even the E-Class. It was exactly a year ago that Skoda showed the VisionC at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 and as we said, it wasn't a preview for a four-door coupe. But the new Superb is undoubtedly a much sexier car thanks to its concept ancestor. The overall length is about the same, but the longer wheelbase means everything from legroom to the stance of the vehicle has improved. The Superb 3 is not as stunning as a Mercedes S-Class Coupe, but it does have some really nice design features. For example, not every automaker can use such sharp creases for its designs. And while the interior does miss out on the Passat's virtual cockpit, white dials make up for this in a classical way that will appeal to older buyers. The Superb 3 looks like a saloon, but is actually a gigantic hatch, with a whopping 625-liter boot.
Like many of the cars built by the VW Group, it's underpinned by the new MQB platform. This gave Skoda access to 8 of the best 4-cylinder engines on the market, all of which will be offered as standard with brake energy recovery and turbocharging. The most powerful makes 280 horsepower and can rocket the car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 6 seconds, while the most economical emits just 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

This car marks the beginning of a new era for Skoda. The company is expanding in China, has already reached 1 million annual sales and will soon introduce new high-volume SUV models, including the Snowman 7-seater, a replacement for the Yeti and the Polar B-segment crossover.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
