With Mercedes-Benz themselves confirming that an open-top variant of the gorgeous S-Class Coupe is on the way sometime in the somewhat nearby future, it is only natural that various renderings of the model have started appearing on the web.
The latest one is coincidentally the most convincing, enough to make us willing to bet that the end-product will be about 99,87 percent identical to what you see in Theophilus Chin's rendering.

Just like the recently-launched Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe (C217), the S-Class Cabriolet (A217) will make use of an engine lineup exclusively comprising of V8 and V12 powerplants.

Despite Mercedes-Benz perfecting the coupe-cabrio vario-roof in three generations of SLK and two of generations of SL Roadster, it seems that they still prefer soft-tops for their four-seat convertibles, meaning that the upcoming S-Class Cabriolet will most likely have a roof that is quasi-identical to what you seen in these renderings.

The model's main raison d'être and currently only direct competitor is the Bentley Continental GTC, as a convertible version of the Rolls-Royce Wraith is still at least a year away from being unveiled.

In other words, despite a rather petite market for luxury four-seat convertibles, Mercedes-Benz saw fit to add such a model in its ever-increasing lineup, even if the decision was probably mostly made for image rather than profit. Plus, let's not forget that Mercedes-Benz of old is not exactly unknown in this niche market, especially since it pretty much helped create.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet (A217) is expected to be unveiled in concept form at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, with the production version to arrive at next year's Geneva Motor Show.
