Remember those black claddings blocking our view in previous batches of spyshots of the upcoming 2016 Astra K? Well, they’re dead and gone as our spy photographers can prove with a new set of photos showing the compact model undergoing testing in urban traffic conditions.

January was a good month for Opel Astra spyshots as we could show you the car’s Insignia-inspired headlights bearing that L-shaped signature for the daytime running lights as well as its squashed taillights with horizontal lines that triggered a flashback with Seat Leon’s rear end.

We can also see a new wheel design in these latest spyshots along with the compact’s front grille, but that’s all Opel is letting us stare at for now. The overall air of the 2015 Astra K - even covered in that psychedelic pattern - hints at a crisp approach from Russelsheim designers, but we’ll be able to confirm or infirm that once we get our hands and eyes on some official phtotos.

All we know for sure at this point is that the 2015 Astra K shares the D2XX platform with its american cousin, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. The platform is designed for C/D-segment models and was designed to be both lightweight and highly flexible. On these two pieces of info, there are rumors saying that we could get a Opel Astra PHEV in the future, although German officials have their lips sealed on this matter.
