Even though Ford has confirmed that the Cobra Jet program will continue into the sixth-generation Mustang, it’s still unclear whether or not the Blue Oval company will use the new S550 platform, which ditched the classic live rear axle for an independent rear suspension.
As Hot Rod Magazine speculated earlier this year, the 2015 Cobra Jet could use a Taurus platform or even a rear-wheel drive configuration of the all-wheel drive Fusion, although the latter scenario is too far fetched if you ask us.
But no matter what platform will be used to underpin the new dragster, the 2015 Cobra Jet will most certainly look the road going version that Ford revealed a week ago. There’s no word when the new quarter mile racer will be unveiled, but the first rendering of the vehicle surfaced on the Mustang6G forums.
As a reminder, the 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet is powered by a 5.0-liter TiVCT V8 engine topped with a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger. Expect this configuration to be carried over for the 2015 Cobra Jet.
