2015 MINI Countryman Receives Slight Makeover

Seeing as the MINI Countryman is quite a success only a few years after its launch with 350,000 units already sold, the British company decided to give it a couple of new features to cater better to the needs of its customers.

Therefore, ladies and gentleman, allow us to introduce the facelifted MINI Countryman. From a visual standpoint, it’s kind of hard to point out exactly where the new model received improvements. However, according to the official press release, there are a few areas that were given a second glance.

The front fascia is one of them, now featuring a new structure for the characteristic hexagonal radiator grill while the horizontal radiator grille rib is now finished in chrome on the Cooper S and SD models. Oh, and there’s a new, curved “S” in red now put up for display.

All the new ALL4 models will, from now on, be fitted with new, painted underride elements for free, their color also being customizable depending on the model. Speaking of new colors, part of the new face of the Countryman are 3 new paint choices: Jungle Green, Midnight Grey metallic, and Starlight Blue Metallic.

A lot of focus also went into making the new cars more eco friendly and increase their performance. While we were expecting the revised Countryman to come out with the new B-engine family, MINI decided to keep the 1.6-liter units until the end of production for the 5-door model.

However, all of them are now EU6 compliant, CO2 emissions going down and power going up on the Cooper S model that now has 192 HP at its disposal. Even the wheels were redesigned, to be lighter and more economical, helping with the fuel consumption. The Cooper and Cooper D models, for example, will from now on be fitted with 16 inch light alloy wheels as standard.

All these measures lead to a reduction in the figure for acceleration from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) by 0.1 to 7.5 seconds on the Cooper S model, while the burst from 80 to 120 km/h (50-75 mph) in fifth gear now takes just 8.4 seconds - 0.2 seconds less than before - while top speed is increased by 3 km/h to 218 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption in the EU test cycle in the new MINI Cooper S Countryman is reduced to 6 l/100 km (39 mpg), while the relevant CO2 emissions drop by three per cent to 139 grams per km.

With all these new features, standard kit and improved specs, MINI is clearly trying to cater to more customers and offer them a better deal for the money. Even though we expected to see some new engines and maybe a bit more visual alteration on the new models, at this point we’ll take what we can and go with what the BMW subsidiary is offering starting with July 2014.
