Since the B-Class is was the first of Mercedes-Benz's new generation of small premium cars, it's also the first to receive a facelift, ahead of the A-Class and especially the much newer GLA and CLA models.
Widely expected to debut during October's Paris Motor Show, the B-Class will adopt a number of new design lines from the repertoire introduced by the W205 C-Class. This includes a smoothed over headlight unit and refreshed front bumper and air intakes.

These changes are crucial since the B-Class, Mercedes's best selling car in Germany, is facing stiff competition from a brand new BMW model, the 2 Series Active Tourer. While on paper the B is more spacious and practical, Bavarians are known for their mass-market successes.

The B200 and B200 diesel are probably the most important models in the B-Class range, not only for Germany, but also internationally. Mercedes plans to make one major change here, with the 1.8-liter CDI diesel of the latter expected to be replaced by a larger 2.2-liter. Despite the larger block, it will be more economical and feel less strained.

These fresh renderings were created by Remco Meulendijk of DesignRM Blog. He obviously envisioned his B-Class with the optional "Sport-Packet", which adds larger air intakes, a twin-spoke grille and sports exhaust.

You might think the oval pipes are overkill on an MPV, but that's what we've been seeing in recent spyshots, leading some to suggest that a new model called B 300 is on its way. This would offer a 2-liter turbo petrol engine with 256 PS, 45 more than the B 250. We'll probably know for sure once the Mondial de l'Automobile 2014 starts, a little over a month from now.
