Looking at the leaping cat brand’s current model lineup in the United Kingdom, everything except for the XF and XJ is relatively new. Every car guy out there thinks that F-Pace is a really uninspired moniker for the marque’s first ever crossover, but fortunately, other models haven’t been renamed.
You could say that Jag is going through a period of transition in a similar fashion to how Maserati did when the Ghibli came out. With the new XE premium mid-sized sports saloon, the Brits are hot on the tail of the premium Germans and a lil’ bit of their share of the segment’s annual sales.

But if you really want to pose a threat to Audi, BMW and Mercedes, the XE (and its somewhat cheap-feeling cabin materials on base models) won’t be enough to bite a considerable piece of the segment’s global sales pie. For that you also need an Audi A6 / BMW 5 Series / Mercedes E-Class-rivaling model, which is the executive XF.

Our carparazzi returned with new spy photos of the second generation XF and, as expected, not much has changed, but the devil is in the details.

While the overall exterior will be similar to that of the outgoing model, some XE cues will be added to the mix, along with LED-accented lights front and rear and an aggressive-looking front bumper.

While the rear bumper doesn’t follow the styling of its counterpart at the front, we suspect those center-biased exhaust pipes to be a testing-only botch job. The swirly camouflage that hides the window curvature of the C-pillar hides a better sculpted side profile design, which goes hand in hand with the more raked roofline of the new XF.

Expected to adopt the iQ[Al] platform of the XE and its Ingenium turbo petrol and turbo diesel powerplants, the 2015 Jaguar XF has also been updated inside with a minimalist dashboard design. Don't worry, a 3-liter supercharged V6 and the berserk 5-liter V8 will follow sometime in the future as well.

The rotary dial gear shifter is still there, alright, but say goodbye to the theatrical revolving air vents of the outgoing XF. This all-new XF should land for its public debut at the New York Auto Show in April, hopefully with an interior that’s not as shabby quality-wise as the entry-level XE grades.
