2015 Infiniti Q60 Concept: BMW 4 Series Rival Revealed

Just like they promised, Infiniti has revealed a brand new coupe concept ahead of the Detroit Auto Show, which starts next week. It's called the Q60 and as the name suggests, this sexy two-door model sits above the Q50 sedan, just like BMW's range offers a premium coupe version of the 3 Series which sits above it, the 4 Series.

It's all too easy to get excited about the Q60, since we think it's the first concept car from Infiniti that we think makes sense, targeting a very real market niche that German carmakers have been targeting for many years. As a "premium sports coupe", this places the Mercedes C-Coupe, the Audi A5 and the BMW 4 Series firmly in its sights. On looks alone, Infiniti has the Europeans beaten.

All-electric premium cars, the Q50 Eau Rouge that costs are ridiculous amount of money – previous concepts pale in importance compared to a sleek coupe, the car many people dream to own.

As far a the looks are concerned, the Q60 is like a much sportier version of the Q50. It has muscular wheel arches and a sort of hourglass figure that tapers in the middle, where the doors are. Massive 21-inch wheels and a massive mesh grille let you know it means business.

Although the Japanese company won't provide photos of the interior until the Detroit Auto Show, it has detailed the cabin in its press release. Apparently, the Q60 takes inspiration from a previous concept, the Q80 (debut at Paris 2014), boasting a low roofline and quilted leather seats

“The Q80 Inspiration was an indication of Infiniti’s future design language,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. “The Q60 Concept is the next step in the journey. The sweeping lines of the Q80 Inspiration gave the Q60 Concept its coupe silhouette and looks while the Formula One-inspired touches from the Q50 Eau Rouge endowed the coupe with its sports personality.”

Although it's premature to talk about engines, the Q60 coupe could be motivated by the same roster as the Q50, meaning a choice between a V6, a hybrid V6 and two Merc engines, the 2.1-liter diesel and 2.0-liter petrol shared with the C-Class.

Full-scale production of this concept car could start in about a year, when it will replace the current Q60, which is a re-badged version of the old G-Series Coupe.
