It looks like the (possibly) upcoming Honda Hornet 800 is appearing more and more often in the rumor mill, and if we are to believe them, we might get to see a new generation of naked Honda machines at either Intermot or EICMA this very fall.
Unlike other far-fetched stories we got so far this year, the Hornet 800 has a hefty dose of credibility to it, and not because Honda is expected to dish out a new bike just for the kicks of it. Kawasaki has revealed their new Z800, Yamaha moved in this year with the MT-07 and the MT-09 machines and Ducati introduced the Monster 821… all proofs that the sub-liter naked segment is moving.

So you can easily tell that Honda is definitely not happy to leave things this way, especially as they have nothing to offer in this niche, with the CB650F obviously targeted towards those seeking entry-point naked all-rounders, and the CB1000R being a bike in the upper league.

We could almost place wagers that something is brewing up at Honda’s right now, and the Japanese manufacturer will not allow 2014 to end without revealing an 800-ish motorcycle. Suzuki is also hot in this area with its new GSR750, and even MV Agusta has grown its presence in the business, adding the all-new Dragster 800 to the Rivale.

Some believe that Honda will follow the stroking-out recipe, using the existing 4 in-line cylinder power plant of the 650F and adding at least 100cc of displacement for more power, and a re-geared transmission. If a decent trim will be backed by a good price, the Hornet 800 might stand a chance to the exceptionally-affordable new Yamaha MT bikes. So, place your bets, Intermot or EICMA?
