The original details about the next generation Honda Civic Type-R seemed less than encouraging. With the Japanese automaker having other less pressing concerns, the popular hot hatchback would have had only about 210 hp coming from its 2.0-liter turbo engine.
Now a new report comes and flips that idea on its head. According to Autoexpress magazine, the Type R will feature a brand new 1.6-liter turbo with 250 hp. That see quite hard to believe, since Honda really doesn’t have a decent 1.6-liter block to start with.
The Type R that debuts in 2015 will have an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Its current rivals all offer manual gearboxes and 2-liter turbo engines. But Honda knows it has to make it different if it ever wants to make a success story out of the Civic Type R again. Still, this rumor does seem a little too good to be true.
