Listening to engines makes us hungry. So if Honda keeps talking about its new VTEC turbo, we're going to have to buy every hot hatch in the room.
Leaving that piece of Game of Thrones humor aside, Honda has just released all the juicy details regarding its Civic Type R monster hot hatch and even organized a media event.
That's why we're able to show you the very first acceleration test, shot from behind the wheel of this model. With 310 PS coming from the world's first 2-liter VTEC Turbo engine, things reach the 200 km/h mark very quickly.
It's not just fast in a straight line though. All the prototype testing was done at the Nurburgring. So even though it's a front-wheel drive car, this is now the fastest Type R ever to go around the track, faster even than the old NSX supercar.
The record-breaking 7-minute 50.63-second lap time around the Green Hell was achieved with the help of a rather impressive array of "racing parts". We have lowered suspension, flared wheel arches, a front diffuser and a rear wing the size of Texas. It even has quad exhaust pipes at the back, just like an old Audi R8.
Mind you, this is a very exciting time to be a fan of hot hatchbacks. SEAT just sent its Leon Cupra ST (a wagon) around the 'Ring in 7 minutes and 58 seconds, while Volkswagen will launch a 265 PS Golf GTI and a 400+ PS Golf R in 2016. Meanwhile, Ford's mighty AWD Focus RS is eagerly awaited.
That 2-liter turbocharged engine also delivers 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) and is connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox. See how they work together in the video below, courtesy of Motorsport Magazine.
