Ford Racing teamed up with drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. in 2010 to create the Mustang RTR, and now with the all-new sixth-generation Mustang getting ready to hit the streets, the RTR is getting a big makeover as well. Although the car won’t officially be unveiled until this fall, some teaser sketches and information are now available for the drift-inspired ‘Stang.
Building off the new styling of the 2015 Ford Mustang, the new Mustang RTR adds a more distinctive look with restyled front fascia and a new grille with D-shaped inserts. At the back of the car, there’s a massive RTR logo positioned between the taillights, a rear lip spoiler and an aggressive rear diffuser. Finishing off the look is a set of blacked-out multi-spoke wheels and a slick graphics package.
The 2015 Ford Mustang RTR goes on sale in January, and while pricing hasn’t been announced, it will be offer in two specifications likely based on the two available engines. According to Ford Racing, the new Mustang RTR will come standard with the Mustang’s new 300-hp 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, but for those wanting the most power with which to shred their rear tires, the 5.0-liter V-8 is optional.
“Ford’s Mustang team has done an incredible job with the new 2015 Ford Mustang. The RTR team and I are pumped to work with such an incredible platform for RTR builds. Without a question, the performance and overall presence of the new Mustang RTR will impress and keep a smile on our customers’ faces whether cruising the streets or getting crazy on the track. I cannot take delivery of mine soon enough,” says Vaughn Gittin Jr.
For those not wanting to go full boat with the RTR package or wanting to add to their 2015 Ford Mustang after their purchase, many of the styling elements of this new design will be available as aftermarket parts through the official Mustang RTR website.
