The Ford Fusion Mk V was presented three years ago while the European-spec 2015 Ford Mondeo entered production late last year. Naturally, the mid-size family sedan is also available in China, an important market for the Blue Oval. But what happened with the China-spec Mondeo facelift?
Motoring publication AutoHome.com.cn spotted the updated model testing in the Asian country and it’s not that far-fetched to say that we’re dealing with a visual downgrade. Just look at the minor aesthetic revisions. It looks as it was hit with the ugly stick.

Gone are the dynamic-looking headlamps of the US and Euro-spec models and in came a pair of slightly boring clusters. Speaking of the front fascia, Ford’s Chinese design team redesigned the shape of the radiator grille as well, giving it more horizontal slats.

The front bumper was also modified, but that sea of black plastic gives us mixed feelings about the Blue Oval’s efforts with this redesign. Round the back, am I seeing things or the China-spec 2015 Ford Mondeo facelift boasts with first-gen Jaguar XF-like taillights?

We’re also able to see a slightly modified rear bumper, with different exhaust exists and rear diffuser. Somehow, this prototype doesn’t look as it’s a top-spec model.

On the other hand, the heavily camouflaged Mondeo facelift featured in the third pic of the adjacent gallery seems to be the range-topping model. Strips of LED daytime running lights and LED headlamps are the most important changes with this mid-sized sedan.

In terms of powertrain options, Changan-Ford will offer 1.5 and 2.0 turbocharged gasoline engines with grunt ranging from 133 kW (181 PS / 178 HP) to 178 kW (242 PS / 238 HP). Debut date? The previously mentioned motoring publication hints that the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show will be the place of unveiling.

UPDATE: as Moby Dick pointed out in a comment, the 2015 Ford Falcon FGX from Australia was a clear inspiration for the Chinese Mondeo facelift. Too bad the taillights aren't as modern-looking as those that equip the FGX, while the fog lights' bezels are way different compared to the Falcon's.
