When you say Ford Focus RS, the word “madness” instantly comes to mind and it is now time to talk about the Blue Oval’ latest form of madness: the next RS. Now that Ford has united its European and US performance divisions, the 2015 RS will be a global product, as Top Gear writes. The vehicle will pack at least 320 hp, which will come from a 2.3-liter tubrocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder unit.
The power will be sent to the road in the traditional RS manner: using the front axle. This is because Ford considers that a 4wd system would add to much weight and that customers wouldn’t want to pay extra for such an optional. Ford will revive the RevoKnuckle suspension for the RS, but this won’t be present on the ST, as it is considered as being “too expensive”.
However, until the 2015 Focus RS arrives, the world of hot hatches will have already brought the game to a whole new level, so the vehicle will have quite some competition to face.
Our say: we know we have to live in a real, profitable world, but to us it looks like Ford is saying: Revoknuckle is too expensive for the ST and 4WD is too expensive for the RS. Sad...
