Introduced at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January, the brand new, aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck will be launched with no less than eleven class-exclusive features.
These will include a 360-degree camera view, remote tailgate, integrated loading ramps, LED spotlights on the side mirrors, Trailer Hitch Assist and a Smart Trailer Tow Module.

The truck is also getting standard LED headlamps, a segment-first considering that the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2014 Ram 1500 can be fitted with such items only via aftermarket suppliers.

As usual, FoMoCo brags that the F-150’s LED headlamps are tougher, brighter and more efficient than anything else its Detroit and Japanese competitors have to offer.

The Blue Oval says its LED lamps use 63 percent less energy than halogen bulbs fitted in competitor trucks and that they are more durable than conventional lights, lasting more than five times longer.

Additionally, the new LED lighting system uses semiconductor chips to control the light and features an unique lens with “16 precision optical surfaces and 80 facets to spread the light evenly”. The design reportedly magnifies the light and allows the vehicle to better illuminate the road.

Moreover, the headlamps have received a unique signature appearance thanks to thin LED tubes. This new gimmick is said to help other drivers spot the truck from great distances at night. Furthermore, Ford stresses that this LED light tube will be the next big thing with truck drivers.

“Remember the craze in the 1980s with truck light bars?” said John Teodecki, Ford lighting expert. “It looks so cool. I’m telling you, this LED light tube is going to be the next big thing. Our new F-150 owners will be longing for dusk every day, just to show off their trucks in dramatic lighting.”

However, these new light tube-fitted trucks won’t hit the streets before the fourth quarter of the year, when the 2015 Ford F-150 is scheduled to arrive in dealerships.
