In order to meed increased demand, the Blue Oval recently announced it decided to add 850 new jobs to its Dearborn Truck, Stamping and Diversified plants in order to build the toughest, most capable and most advanced F-150 yet, set to launch in just a few weeks' time throughout the United States of America.
The River Rouge Complex holds a very special place in F-Series history, mainly because the complex has handled F-150 production ever since America's best-selling pickup truck has been introduced in 1948. To put all those years into perspective, 1948 is the year President Harry S. Truman signed the Marshall Plan, authorizing $5 billion in aid for a post-WWII Europe.
Fast forward 66 years or so and here we are now, in an age when the F-150 is made out of military-grade aluminum alloys and comes laden with segment-first technology. “As customer anticipation for the all-new F-150 continues to build, today we are bringing on 850 new jobs to help meet the market demand," said Mr. Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas.
Priced from $26,615 and topping at $52,155 for the Platinum trim level, the 2015 Ford F-150 is boasting with a lot of great stuff, but the highlight of the lot comes in the form of a 2.7-liter EcoBoost mill with 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft on tap. Don't laugh at its diminutive size 'cos this engine offers a max payload of 2,250 lbs and a 8,500-lb towing capacity.
Although full-size pickup truck customers urged Ford to introduce a turbo diesel with this generation of the F-150, the Blue Oval hasn't decided if it'll do that, so your most economical powerplant variant comes in the form of the previously mentioned 2.7L EcoBoost.
We're sorry to inform that EPA fuel economy ratings are not yet available yet and will likely be announced in November, but Ford previously promised a fuel economy improvement for the 2015 model year of at least 5 and as much as 20 percent higher than the 2014 model year's lineup of gas-fed engines.
