We’re talking about the Sedan and Touring models, of course, as the Gran Turismo is a rather newer addition to the range and will get its own update later.

The duo was spotted in Germany, wearing the usual BMW camouflage on their front bumpers. As we already told you, that’s the only place where you might find a small style change. Don’t expect huge improvements either (you’ll have to squint really hard to make one from the other).

It’s the technological changes that will make the biggest impact though. BMW plans to introduce their new B series engines on the new models, replacing some of the older N units.

The N20 units will be kept until the end of the production for the F30/F31 models. That means that 320i and everything beneath it will, most likely, remain unchanged in terms of engines. However, on higher levels, things will be different.

The 330i will make a comeback but it will be fitted with a B48, 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making around 270 HP. Yes, we know, it’s a shame the old naturally aspirated units won’t be coming back but that’s just they way things are.

As for inline 6-cylinder powerplants, there will be a new BMW 340i model coming out, using a fresh B58 3-liter turbocharged engine that is rumored to make around 320-330 HP and over 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.

A plug-in hybrid model is also in the works and it will be called 330e. It will be using a 2-liter turbocharged B48 engine and an electric motor from derived from the i3 that makes around 95 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

It’s estimated that it will be good for around 35 km (22 miles) of pure electric range and it could be recharged in around 3 hours to full capacity. Both the F30 Sedan and F31 Touring will get these new plants and changes. Production will start in July, next year.
