2015 Dakar Training Course Debuts in Paris

Even though to those who don’t know what participating in a rally raid competition such as the Dakar, the months ahead of the 3 January kick-off round may seem a long time, the riders, drivers and teams know that the time is rather short, as there are a lot of preparations to make. And because each edition draws new participant, the Dakar organizers have set up an information and simulation course for the four categories: motorcycle, quad, car and truck.

The event will take place on 17 October in Paris, France and is reserved only to the drivers and co-drivers who have already registered for the 2015 Dakar. The organizers also stress that first-time Dakar competitors are “strongly advised to take part in this course” as the info which will be presented is a truly valuable asset for those who will pit their skills, resilience and machines against the South American deserts.

Participants will be able to attend various workshops, such as:
• A Dakar competitor’s typical day
• Navigation and the Road Book
• Use of safety equipment: GPS, Iritrack, Sentinel etc.
• Physical preparation
• Useful advice
• Questions and answers, and more.

Official Dakar sources mention that “Etienne Lavigne and David Castera, respectively Director and Sporting Director of the Dakar, will be in charge of running the day, accompanied by specialists for each workshop.” The number of places available for the course is limited and first-time participants will have priority booking their presence.

The course includes a buffet lunch and a fixed-rate fee of €50 ($65) is needed to secure participation. Those who plan to attend the Paris course are asked to confirm their intentions by 20 September. Another training course will be held on 15 November in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
