General Motors owns the market for full-size SUVs, and even though it just launched the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, there are already a few mid-year changes in store for both models. Starting in October, both SUVs will be updated with three new tech features that will help keep the Tahoe and Suburban at the head of the pack.
Carried over from the Cadillac division, the Tahoe and Suburban are the latest Chevrolet products to offer customers a wireless charging dock for their smart phone. This uses a special case for any smartphone and a magnetic inductive mat to charge, which is able to provide a charge to the battery without the need for wires. Chevrolet did not release any new photos of the interior showing where the charging dock would go, but there is more than enough space inside the center console on both SUVs.

Another new feature being added is the hands-free liftgate. This convenient addition allows anyone with the key fob in their pocket to open the liftgate simply by waving their foot under the rear bumper, which is handy when you’re approaching the vehicle while carrying heavy or bulky items in your arms.

To get the wireless charging dock and the hands-free liftgate, buyers must either opt for the $2,705 Luxury Package on the LT trim level or choose the top-of-the-line LTZ trim. In terms of pricing, the 2015 Tahoe LT with Luxury Package starts at $54,195, while the 2015 Tahoe LTZ has a starting price of $59,995.

As expected, the Tahoe and Suburban are finally getting the OnStar with 4G LTE with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot that was promised at launch. Unlike the wireless charging dock and the hands-free liftgate, this OnStar with 4G LTE will come standard on all LT and LTZ trim levels, and it comes with a data trial period of three months or three gigabytes of data, whichever comes first.

The 2015 Tahoe and Suburban have resonated with families who want maximum capability combined with comfort and efficiency. These new technologies make Chevrolet’s class-leading full-size SUVs even more attractive as the go-to vehicles for active lifestyles,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet marketing.

Buyers looking to get these new features will have to wait until October, and unfortunately, none of these tech or convenience goodies will be offered on the base Tahoe LS or Suburban LS trim levels.
