2016 Chevrolet Cruze Spied Testing in Northern Europe after Chinese Launch

A fresh batch of spyshots have just arrived from our team of photographers located in the Scandinavian Peninsula showing a carefully camouflaged Chevrolet Cruze that seems to be the 2016 model year. The same car is already on sale in China and comes with rather older engines.

Therefore, as enticing as these pics might seem, we already knew how the new Chevy was going to look like. The sedan wears a freshly tailored suit with a revised front lower grille and more chromed trims all around than its predecessor. However, we wouldn’t necessarily call that last bit an improvement.

The good thing is that the Cruze now looks closer to the 2015 Chevy SS and sets itself apart from the Impala or Malibu models. Being manufactured locally, the car uses a choice of just two engines: a 1.4-liter turbocharged 150 HP four-cylinder mill and a 1.5-liter 114 HP atmospheric motor that has direct injection. Both of them drink petrol and no diesel is on the table as of right now because Chevrolet will soon pull out of Europe altogether.

Rumors had it that the introduction of the new Cruze on the US market was delayed so that GM finishes work on its new 1.6-liter SIDI turbo gasoline plant that Opel announced for 2015. This new engine should be good for 170 HP and around 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque and would be the one to have on the 2016 Cruze.

Websites around Europe tout that the new Cruze will be introduced later in 2015 at a big American auto show so expect a full unveiling (engines and prices included) soon enough.
