When certain self-respecting car makers test future models they sometimes benchmark them against what they believe to be the standard to beat in that segment, something which is not exactly fair for the actual benchmarks but pretty much great for the customers.
When a few Mercedes-Benz engineers were spotted testing the upcoming 2015 B-Class (W246) facelift they were caught benchmarking the model against the... current B-Class model.
As some of you know, the B-Class luxury compact MPV is the best-sold MPV in Germany and one of the most reliable Mercedes-Benz models in recent years.
Until recently, it didn't have a single direct competitor, but BMW saw its success and decided to throw their 2 Series GT into the equation, a model which will be both the first MPV and front-wheel drive car that ever wore the blue propeller badge.
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011, the current generation of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class is about to receive its mid-cycle refresh, with most of the refresh details consisting of a slightly different exterior design, a couple of new engines and the addition of new technology inside.
As far as stylistic differences go, the front will definitely get under the knife, with the headlights to get a new overall shape in line with the latest Mercedes-Benz design philosophy and a restyled front bumper.
Easily seen in some of the spy photos bellow, the engine grille will be slightly more upright for a better pedestrian protection, while the rear bumper will also be all new, with integrated exhaust exits somewhat similar to those from the new C-Class W205.
The taillights are highly covered, but we suspect their restyle will be slightly less obvious than the headlights, while the interior seems to get the least attention as far as “new stuff added” are concerned. Expect the refreshed B-Class to be revealed either at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show or at the 2015 edition of the Geneva Motor Show.
