2014 Zero SR, Electric Sporty Fun

When an "R" or two come into a bike's name as a suffix, it's kind clear we're looking at a sportier version of the base model. The same is true for the 2014 Zero SR, the more racey version of the S streetfighter.

The 2014 Zero SR maintains the design cues of the base model, but the performance specs have been bettered, starting with the new 660 amp motor controller that provides 24% more power and 56% higher torque, taking things into the sort bike realm.

Now this machine delivers 106 ft-lb (144 Nm) and is good for 67 hp. It may not seem enough, but all the torque is available all the time, and this means 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, thanks to the clutchless, single-speed transmission.

The Zero SR is only available with the top battery pack, the ZF11.4, offering 11.4 kWh nominal storage. If the 137 miles (220 km) city range it provides, you can also order a Power Tank extension battery for extra juice.

Zero Motorcycles also upgraded the forks to 43mm stanchions, with Nissin front calipers and J-Juan rear ones, a revised dash now looking neater and way cooler, and following the rest of the design elements better.

The top speed is 102 mph (164 km/h) and the 2014 Zero SR will need 7.9 hours for a full recharge. Add in two more hours for the Power Tank. The base version retails for $16,995 (€12,640), while the top version ins $19,490 (€14,500).
