The reliable nature of the DS platform was recognized by the massive success these vehicles got when upgraded with authority-spec accessories - yes, these make more and more popular police motorcycles, and their versatile build makes all the difference.

New, more compliant 43mm forks are now equipped as standard, while the triple clamp and rear shock are also revised for better performance and better looks. A new digital dash delivers easy to read riding data and is now better integrated with the overall looks of the bike.

Nifty on-off tires shoe the 19" and 17" wheels, with a Nissin caliper for the front and a J-Juan one in the rear. The 2014 Zero DS is powered by a 54 hp, 68 ft-lb (92 Nm) motor, which is mated to a single-speed, clutchless transmission.

Zero also offers 8.5 and 11.4 kWh battery packs, with an optional Power Tank add-on available, too. The range varies between 62 miles (99 km) and 103 miles (165km) combined usage.

You'll have to fork out between $12,995 (€9,620) and $17,490 (€12,949) for the 2014 Zero DS, but keep in mind that this bike can ride both on and off the road, so it's twice the fun.
