The second Free Practice session ahead of the Gran Premio bwin de Espana is over, and Marc Marquez was the fastest rider of today’s final outing. Despite the fact that he led the session, his 1m39s757 fastest lap was still slower than the 1m39s357 Aleix Espargaro posted in FP1.
Even more, the elder of the Espargaro brothers was the second-fastest rider of the second session, and the .216 gap between him and Marc Marquez makes him the fastest overall rider this Friday. This means his chances for a good placement on the Sunday grid are increasing. We bet he’s quite happy now and thinking about possibly improving his grid record. His best starting position was second in Catalunya, back in 2011, while he was still riding in the Moto2 class.

A solid leap forward for Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso, too, as he ended FP2 in the third position, up 4 places from the morning result. The factory Yamaha machines came in 4th and 5th, with Rossi leading the way. The other Repsol Honda had Dani Pedrosa 6th in this outing, followed by Alvaro Bautista (Gresini Honda), Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda), Pramac Ducati’s Andrea Iannone and Drive M7 Aspar’s Nicky Hayden for the top 10.

Tech3 had Pol Espargaro the 11th fastest rider, while his team mate Bradley Smith was 16th. Hiroshi Aoyama (Drive M7 Aspar), Hector Barbera (Avintia Racing) and Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) all suffered crashes in Free Practice 2 but none was seriously injured. Crutchlow stepped up 3 positions and ended FP 2 in the 15th position.

The Sunday round at Jerez will be the 100th GP for Marc Marquez and the 200th for Jorge Lorenzo, who will also be 27 on the very race day.
