After Renault officially released their specs on the 2014 F1 engine in February this year, it’s now Mercedes’ turn to reveal theirs. You know how it is - “You show yours, I show mine... “

If you haven’t heard yet, the 2014 F1 rules changes the way cars will be powered, ditching the naturally aspired V8s for turbocharged V6 engines instead, to make them compliant with stricter fuel consumption rules and all that green bull concept.

Similar to Renault’s engine, Mercedes AMG will have a main turbocharged 1.6-liter V6, helped by two electric motor that features a new energy recovery system. The automaker hasn’t revealed further details, but considering it’s competitor specs, their V6 would make about 600 hp and the two electric motors will help it - one giving and extra 120 kW (161 hp) to the car’s output and the second one will help spool the turbo or it will recharge the batteries.

Funny to see how the “green thing” is slowly eating it’s way into every bit of motorsport. We hope NASCAR won’t adopt this kind of technology, as that would fulfill the three signs of the Apocalypse.
