2014 Lexus IS to Debut in Detroit?

With a significantly refreshed LS ready to hit the market, a new 2013 ES and the GS, Lexus has no shortage of sedans right now. Rumor has it that the Japanese company is working on a really compact hybrid hatchback based on the architecture of the Yaris Hybrid and Prius C.

But in an interview with Australian publication GoAuto, Lexus Australia marketing managed Peter Evans hinted that an all-new, third-generation IS would receive “early publicity” towards the end of the year in time for its debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January.

Test mules for this car have already been spotted. These use the same body as the second generation, which was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005.

The current IS is sold with two V6 engine configurations, 250 and 350, while in Europe an additional diesel is offered in the form of the 220D. Toyota has signed a deal with BMW, under which the Bavarians will offer them diesel engines. However, from what we understand, the diesel currently doesn’t cover the Lexus brand.
