We reported yesterday that the Can-Am Spyder RT is the king of upgrades in the Spyder line-up for 2014. The most important upgrade is the new Rotax engine, going from 2 to 3 cylinders and with a 30% hike in displacement, now at the 1,330cc mark.
The new power plant is said to provide 40% more low-end torque and a better throttle response. The power rating claims 115 hp at 7250 rpm and 96 ft-lb (130 Nm) of torque at an even lower 5000 rpm, for a truly strong acceleration and turning.
Another major upgrade is the 6-speed gearbox, now available in both manual and semi-automatic versions. The transmission comes with electronic clutch control and a long ratio 6th gear for a more "elastic" performance and more pleasurable ride.
Other upgrades include a redesigned front fascia for better aerodynamics and air flow towards the radiators for a claimed twice the cooling power of the older RT. Electronic stability control, traction control, ABS, power steering and an AM/FM radio with iPod/iPhone compatibility are also standard.
Optional accessories include an all- new rider backrest, Akrapovic Sport Touring C3 silencer and many more. Base prices range from $22,999 (€17,225, manual transmission) to $30,499 (€22,840, RT Limited, semi-automatic transmission).
