Although BMW has yet to publish official fuel economy figures for its 2014 328d model, EPA has revealed that the diesel-powered sedan will return 32 miles per gallon in the city and 45 miles per gallon on the highway.
These numbers apply only to the rear-wheel drive 328d, because adding the all-wheel drive option (xDrive) will cut the vehicle’s fuel efficiency to 31 mpg city and 43 mpg highway. The figures are reportedly also available for the all-wheel drive wagon.
Compared to other diesel offerings in the United States, the BMW 328d sits above the smaller Volkswagen Jetta TDI (42 mpg highway), but below the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze (46 mpg highway). However, the German sedan will have no actual rival until the Mercedes-Benz C-Class diesel will be introduced on the North American market.
As a reminder, the 2014 BMW 328d is powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine that delivers 180 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque.
