2013 brings a better electric dual-sport bike from EV manufacturer Zero Motorcycles. The next year's Zero DS boasts a lot of enhancements and takes things even further in to the realm of electric two-wheelers.
The whole bike is as sturdy as it gets and has been created to handle pretty much anything on the streets and off the road. The Z-Forece powertrain boasts awesome responsiveness and throttling up and down feels as natural as possible. Yet, the powertrain is a maintenance-free one, so you're going to be spared of the usual fuss which comes with conventional bikes.
Available in 8.5 and 11.4 kWh versions, the Zero DS can go for 126 miles (203 km) on a single charge if you're riding through the city (with the big battery model). When traveling on a highway, the range is 76 miles (122 km) at a speed of 55 mph (88 km/h).
The 11.4 kWh model charger to 100% in less than 8 hours, but using the CHAdeMO charger you'll be at 95% in just one hour. The engines pack 54 BHP and deliver an awesome 92 Nm (68 lb-ft) torque, and a max speed of 95 mph (152 km/h).
The Zero DS will be available for $13,995/ 10,750 € MSRP (ZF8.5) and $15,995/ 12,290 € MSRP (ZF11.4), with potential incentives according to each country. Sales start January 2013.
