2013 VW Golf GTI (Mk7) Fresh Details
But what about the GTI? Well, we’ve said time and time again that the MkV is still a great vehicle that basically changed the hot hatch marketplace by blending a bit of power, efficiency and a comfort. But in trying to overcome their weaknesses against the Golf, its rivals have found new strengths. The Megane RS, Opel Astra OPC are more powerful than the Golf and more focused as well.
Rumor has it the new Golf will arrive with a re-tuned 2.0-liter engine. Previous reports suggest the output is 260 hp, and an electronic differential will be fitted.
But a recent report from Car Magazine suggests the game won’t be mored on that far, as only about 220 hp will be on tap. If this is true, than we’re not going to look at a hot Golf the same way for a long time.
The Megane RS can already sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6 seconds, and so can the Opel Astra OPC (though it’s too expensive), but the Golf GTI will only do it in 6.7 seconds.
It’s not all bad news, however, as reports from Wolfsburg suggest it will be 30mm lower, with a wheelbase is around 50mm longer. But while that means it will handle better, it still doesn’t make it scorching hot.

That's not exactly true. I can tell you that the suspension of the Megane RS with the Cup chassis is more comfortable on the road in some situations than the Golf. The suspension is a harder but it's less crashy at the top when you go over bigger bumps. The Scirocco R is a lot more expensive, i love it but you can almost buy a sportscar with the money
