2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Revealed [Photo Gallery]
The new Beetle Convertible has a folding fabric roof that takes 10 seconds to open and close, and this can be done at speeds of up to 30mph (48 km/h).
The interior is pretty much the same, and VW say’s they even retained some of the flat roof shape of the Beetle coupe. To make the car safe, the A pilars were strengthened and two pop-up roll bars were added behind the rear bench seats.
The engine range that will be offered in America will start with the usual 2.5-liter base engine that produces 170hp and 177 lb-ft mated to a six-speed auto. There’s also the 2.0-liter TSI turbo with 200 hp and 207 lb-ft, which is optionally available with an automatic. Lastly, there’s the 2.0-liter TDI clean diesel with 140 hp that will get you 41 mpg.
The European version will have an even wider range of motors, starting with the 105 PS 1.2 TSI base motor, 1.4 TSI with 160 PS and 2.0 TSI 200 PS. The diesel options include the 105 PS 1.6-liter TDI and 140 PS 2.0-liter TIDI.
