2013 PPIHC: Carlin Dunne Is an Electric Rider Faster Than the Rest

While everybody was hoping for a new record of all times at this year's iteration of the Pikes Peak, but it wasn't meant to be. However, the fastest two-wheeled vehicle to race up the Hill was the Lightning "Flying Banana" with Carlin Dunne aboard.

And when we say "fastest", we really mean it: Dunne outpaced even the fastest of the1205cc class machines, Bruno Langlois' Ducati Multistrada 1200 S. Dunne raced to the top of the Pikes Peak in juts a tad over the 10 minutes mark, recording a 10m0s694 time, while the fastest ICE put down 10m21s323.

The fastest outright machine up the Pikes Peak was a Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak with the World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb behind the wheel, and which crossed the finish line after 8m13s878, a stunning time compared with the last year's best race which was almost 1 minute and a half behind the new record.

It will take some time and serious development for electric motorcycles to become a serious threat for such cars up the Pikes Peak, but given the progress of the e-bike industry, maybe that day is not that far. Via Asphalt and Rubber.
