2013 NAIAS: Lincoln MKC Concept

If you ask anybody to name a luxury American SUV, most will immediately name the Cadillac Escalade. However, we think Lincoln has a good chance of making a name for itself with something a bit smaller.

The all-new and never before seen Lincoln MKC Concept previews a future production SUV or crossover that’s built on the same body as the Ford Escape. But while the Ford is a looker, this is clearly a stunner.

From the floor of the Detroit Auto Show, we got the clear impression of a totally modern, gorgeous interior. Clean flowing lines were used to ‘paint’ the leather on the seats, a pure white that’s brought to an even stronger effect with chrome strips.

The body of the concept shows the new Lincoln split-grille design, an all-glass roof and frameless doors, all design elements that could make the production model become a hit with customers.

The only thing that’s missing is a decent powertrain. Just like the Escape, the MKC will likely be offered with a 2-liter EcoBoost engine and possibly even the 1.6-liter EcoBoost. The formula looks and sounds quite similar to the Range Rover Evoque, so Lincoln might night something else to differentiate itself and justify its high premiums, like a better gearbox or more power from the same engines.

Now, if only the production model looks 90% like this, Lincoln may have a chance of increasing their sales for once!
