2013 MotoGP: Insane Race as Lorenzo Claws Back Silverstone Victory
The last two rounds saw the rookie extraordinaire swithing the leading position with the reigning champion several times, each of them extremely motivated for the win: the first aiming for his 5th win this year, while the latter looking forward to stop him from getting too much ahead in the rankings.
With Marquez crashing during the weekend and dislocating one shoulder, the battle was even more thrilling, but in the end Lorenzo's experience and legendary calculated racing go the better of his younger rival.
Dani Pedrosa came in third after a very poor start which forced him to first battle his way out of the middle of the pack and only then charging on the 2 in the front. After a sensational chase, he ended up very close to his fellow countrymen, but it was a bit too late to make serious threats.
It was obvious that his unnaturally weak launch prevented him to make a more definitive shot at victory, so it's easy to understand his disappointment in this podium shot.
Bad home race for Cal Crutchlow, with 3 crashes during the weekend and having destroyed his bike just as many times. His crew put up a massive effort to give him a racing bike, but it was just not his day.
A bad start and abad feeling of the bike saw Crutchlow ending the Silverstone round in the 7th position. However, it's good that he managed to get some points and crossed the finish line, unlike unlucky Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso who crashed 2 laps before the checkered flag was show.
All these allowed GO&FUN Honda Gresini's Alvaro Bautista to put up an impressive battle with Valentino Rossi for the 4th position, but the Italian's expertise and bike helped him to leave Bautista in the 5th position.
Bautista was followed by Bradl in the 6th, Hayden 8th, with Smith in the 9th position and Aleix Espargaro as the top CRT machine in 10th.
MotoGO goes to Misano (Italy) in a fortnight, with Marquez in the leading position with 233 points, Pedrosa in second with 103m and Lorenzo closing in, 9 points behind.
