Ford Motor Co. is getting ready for yet another Escape recall over fire concerns. The same vehicle forced the automaker to issue another recall in 2012 and pay a $17.35 million fine to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier this year.
Ford is now recalling certain 2013 model year Escapes manufactured from October 5, 2011, through July 11, 2012, and fitted with a 1.6-liter engine. About 9,469 vehicles may have been shipped with an incorrectly installed fuel line that could chafe and leak fuel.

“A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire,” the NHTSA says in a statement, adding that the recall is expected to begin by January 23 next year. The affected SUVs will be inspected and have their fuel line replaced by company dealers, free of charge.

Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 using recall number 13S12, and the NHTSA Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
