2013 Dakar: Stage 10 Is About Fast Technical Riding

Stage 10 in the 2013 Dakar was a medium-length one with alternating terrain, with the riders’ navigation skills put to rest, as riding the 37 km liaison and 357 km of special stage were more about keeping a fast pace and holding to the handlebars.
Not an easy task, Stage 10 linked Cordoba and La Rioja, with a steep climb to 2000m (6,560 ft), narrow rocky roads and the possibility to crash awaiting behind any turn.

Riding fast and well a bike with no problems led Barreda Bort to another stage win, followed closely by Despres (1’ 15” behind), another Husqvarna rider (Goncalves) in third, and with two more KTMs in positions 4 and 5: Pedrero and Marc Coma’s replacement rookie, Kurt Caselli.

10 out of 14 stages into the 2013 Dakar, Despres is leading 1 and a half minutes ahead of fellow KTM rider Ruben Faria, with Lopez and Jakes in positions 3 and 4, and Husqvarna rider Botturi in 5th. Honda’s Rodrigues is in a provisional 6h place, followed by Pain.
With some hard stages yet to follow, it looks like mistakes are starting to be very expensive as far as Dakar points are concerned and we’re going to see a final battle between Despres’ huge expertise.
