2013 Dakar: Chivite and His Bultaco Withdraw, Along with Other 17 Riders

Remember Ignacio Chivite, the privateer riding in the Dakar Rally with the old Bultaco? Well, it looks like the 2013 Dakar was no better than his last rallies: Chivite withdraws during Stage 2,s o his dreams of at least seeing the finish line from his old Bultaco will have to wait for one more year.

Despite Chivite bringing a heftier tech assistance crew and the 1978 Frontera 370 getting the latest tweaks and tuning to make it a better cross-country motorcycle, the harsh South American desert racing proved too much for the bike.

Now, the Spaniard is by no means the only guy to withdraw from the race. After Stage 3, no less than 13 riders have been forced to give up, including 2 of the BMW pilots. KTM, Husqvarna and Husaberg have the lowest “body count”, with only 1 bike out of the race, while Yamaha has 6, Honda 4. One more Beta and Moto Beta riders are out, too.
