2013 Chevrolet Spark EV Will Use Safer Battery than Volt
GM understandably want the upcoming Spark EV to arrive on the market with a clean bill of health, so the the Volt tech has to become a bit safer. Following the NHTSA probe into the Volt’s lithium-ion pack, GM says it will use a less volatile mix in the battery of the electric Spark.
According to Automotive News, phosphate-based lithium ion batteries from A123 Systems will be used in the Spark. These are less likely to burn than other systems.
