Volkswagen’s American division has announced a small recall, concerning only 153 2012 Passat sedans and 15 2012 Routan vans.
The Passats have a problem with the diesel fuel filter elements that may result in a leak and potentially lead to a fire. This recall will begin in May. We are of course talking about a clean diesel 2.0-liter TDI car, but not all are affected so don’t panic yet.
"The Passats were built with a diesel fuel filter element that may not seal correctly," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the 2012 Passat. "Over time, or after certain driving distances, these vehicles are susceptible to a fuel leakage. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, may lead to a fire."
Meanwhile, the 15 troublesome 2012 model year Routans have a serious problem with the rear suspension that may result in the wheel coming off the car, according to the NHTSA. This more serious recall will have to begin this month.
Owners of the Passat and Routan can contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.
