2012 Volvo S60 Upgraded with Cheaper Trim

Volvo decided to introduce a new S60 trim level in the United States that will make the new sedan more affordable by approximately $7,000 as compared to the initial top version. The new T5 trim level will be priced at $30,975 kickingtires.com writes, without the $875 destination charge, but obviously lacks some of the features available on the initial T6 version launched in 2010.

If you're going for the T5, you should know that power is now provided by a 2.5-liter turbo engine that develops 250 horsepower. Although it is mated to the same six-speed automatic transmission just like its more expensive brother, the T5 is only offered with front-wheel drive.

In terms of performance, the T5 goes from a naught to sixty in 6.8 seconds, while fuel consumption goes, according to the EPA estimates cited by the aforementioned source, to 20 and 30 mpg city and highway.

And although it's cheaper, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be offered with less features. The City Safety system is still there, as is the case of automatic climate control, 7-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth support. Instead, there's no leather as standard, but if you think this is a must-have feature, you can order it as an option priced at $1,900.

In Europe, the first units that rolled off production lines were available with two petrol engines, 3.0l T6 (304 bhp/440 Nm) and 2.0T (203 bhp/300 Nm) and two diesel – 2.4 D5 (205 bhp/420 Nm) and 2.0 D3 (163 bhp/400 Nm). Volvo also added two other gasoline engines 2.0 T5 (240 bhp/320 Nm), 1.6 T4 (180 bhp/240 Nm) and 1.6 T3 (150 bhp/240 Nm), as well as a diesel unit, the 1.6 D DRIVe (115 bhp/270 Nm).
