Toyota has launched the brand new hybrid version of the 2012 Camry to the Australian market. The car is not only more efficient, but also cheaper to buy and even faster, so this is the kind of fuel-saver you can get a bit excited about.
The car of course uses a gas-electric hybrid system, which combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle with an electric motor. On the Australian combined cycle, this translates into economy figures of 5.2L/100km, down significantly from the last car.

This is probably a decent alternative to diesel mid-size saloon buyers, as prices start at just AUD34,990. Thanks to a better battery system, the car also comes with a pure electric running mode, good for a couple of kilometers at reasonable speeds.

The base car is the Camry H, and has 16-inch alloy wheels with Michelin tires, a six-speaker display audio system with a 6.1-inch screen.

For AUD41,490, you can have the luxury spec (called HL), which comes with 17-inch alloy wheels with Bridgestone tyres, front fog lamps, rear lip spoiler, chrome door handles and chrome rear garnish. Interior leather accents and premium door trims, driver’s seat memory, power front passenger seat, premium steering wheel and gear-shift knob, electro-chromatic rear vision mirror and rear electric sunshade.
