2012 SEMA: Formula Ford 1.0L EcoBoost Road Car

Ford might make its money selling sedans and pickups to regular folks, but it has the engineering might to impress us. Take the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, a three-cylinder motor that makes 123 hp in the European B-MAX, C-MAX and Focus. It has the capacity to grow in size and adapt, but most impressively, it’s been turned into a Ford Racing engine as well for the Formula Ford.

But even though you wouldn’t take this to do the weekly shopping, this is the road car version of that machine, and also the 11th Fastest road legal car to go round the famous German Nurburgring Nordschleife race track, with a time of 7 minutes and 22 seconds. This means a 1.0-liter EcoBoost is capable of going toe to toe with the Zondas, the Enzos and the Aventadors.

To become road legal, the car we met at the 2012 SEMA Show had to be fitted with number plates, wheel covers, front and rear lights, bigger wing mirrors and road-legal tires. Despite this, it will go from 0 to 62 mph in under 4 seconds and has a top speed of 159 mph.
