2012 Saab 9-4X to Debut in November in LA

It appears that all rumors hinting that the release of the new Saab 9-4X will take place in 2010 are actually true as organizers of the Los Angeles Auto Show confirmed, via the event's official Twitter page, that the new model will be unveiled in November. "SAAB has confirmed that the 9-4X Crossover will make its world debut at the LA Auto Show this Nov.," it is mentioned on the LA Auto Show's Twitter profile.

Details are still unavailable, but there's a lot of speculation regarding the engines to be fitted under the hood of the future crossover. Voices familiar with the matter are claiming that Saab might use a 2.8-liter V6 turbo engine that would develop 300 horsepower at 5,300 rpm and would be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Of course, the engine would be tweaked to improve fuel efficiency and cut emissions, but it's not yet clear whether the Swedish brand, now a Spyker-owned company, would turn to additional technologies such as Start-Stop. A second engine is also on the table, in the form of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that would generate approximately 220 horsepower.

It is believed that the production model will be similar to the BioPower concept presented by Saab at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. At that time, the concept was propelled by a 2.0-liter BioPower engine that generated no less than 300 horsepower and a torque of 295 lb-ft.

If the news are indeed true, expect to see the new 9-4X in production in early 2011, with sales likely to begin in the following months.
