Kia Forte Koup, the model that officially saw daylight at the 2009 New York International Auto Show, is currently offered in two engine configurations but, if we are to trust the latest rumors concerning the car, a turbocharged option is very likely to join the range in the near future.
Tom Loveless, vice president of sales for Kia Motors America, said that a turbocharged four-cylinder will most likely be offered on model year 2012 but specific details are yet to be disclosed.
The Koup is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that generates 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. The SX trim also includes a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder powerplant with a higher final output: 173 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque.
Four transmission options are available, as it follows: a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive (EX models), while the SX model features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and Sportmatic.
"On the heel of the introductions of the Soul and Forte sedan, Forte Koup represents the next exciting step in the transformation of Kia design and offers a blend of sporty and emotional appeal," said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing, KMA said back in April when the company presented the car for the first time at the New York International Auto Show. "We believe our new design evolution coupled with standard Kia value and safety features will continue to attract customers to the Kia brand."
