"We are excited and honoured to be a supplier to Chrysler Group LLC on this high profile model," said Autoliv CEO Jan Carlson. "Historically, Autoliv has been a major supplier of safety systems to both Chrysler Group and Fiat S.p.A., however thanks to our strong global presence and technology leadership, particularly in small car safety restraint systems, we have been entrusted with more Fiat 500 business," added Carlson.
The vehicle comes to the world at Chrysler Group’s Toluca Assembly Plaint in Mexico. The car is Chrysler’s first attempt of fighting the A-segment war and is now available in Fiat Studios in North America.
For the Fiat 500 built in North America, Autoliv will supply both front and rear seatbelts, frontal airbags (driver, passenger and driver side knee airbag), side-impact airbags for pelvic and thorax protection and side curtain airbags for head protection as well as the steering wheel. In Europe, the company also offers the passenger airbag and driver knee airbag for the 500.
We can tell you one thing about the 500: this is one of the most fun cars we’ve ever driven. Of course, we’re referring to the Abarth 500, a vehicle that was once our test car. You can read the full experience (with the inevitable stings included) by following this link.
