2011 Volkswagen Sharan Official Photos Leaked

Fifteen years after the introduction of the Volkswagen Sharan, the second generation of the model finally broke cover, thanks to these photos leaked ahead of tomorrow Geneva Auto Show debut. As we can see from the photos, the new Sharan features the same front end as all the new generation Volkswagen vehicles.

According to autoblog.nl, compared to the current generation the new MPV has grown in size, reaching 4.85 meters in lenght and 1.9 meter in width. The increase has been dictated by the need to compete with the competition from Ford, Renault and Opel.

A new feature of the 2011 Sharan is the rear sliding doors which, according to some sources, might be motorized.

Engine wise, the MPV will feature two diesels, both 2.9l TDI with 140 or 170 hp and two petrol, a 1.4l TSI (150 hp) and a 2.0l TSI (200 hp). The
most powerful version be used in conjunction with a DSG clutch.

As you may recall, the Sharan was launched in 1995 and is currently 15 years old, one of Volkswagen's oldest vehicles in production. The last makeover of the minivan was back in 2000, when an upgraded edition of the first version of the car was released.

Official details and an extensive gallery are expected to follow shortly.

autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
