In light of the three games Honda's new Sport Hybrid will be featured in (Car Town, Nitto Legends 1320 and Gran Turismo 5), the Japanese manufacturer brought the CR-Z at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, as a means to gather more enthusiasm from the public.
"E3 Expo is the perfect venue to showcase the all-new CR-Z," Steven Center, vice president of marketing operations for American Honda said at the event. "The engaging and sporty driving experience found in the CR-Z feels like something out of the latest racing video game. Gamers will feel at home behind the wheel of the CR-Z - whether it be in front of a console or on the open road."
The CR-Z is, however, not a toy, or a game for that matter. Powered by a petrol 1.5l i-VTEC engine (mated to either a six speed manual gearbox or an optional continuously variable transmission) and paired with Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist electric system, the vehicle outputs a combined 122 HP and 128 lb.-ft (174 Nm) of torque. The car features new three-mode drive system that allows the driver to select between Sport, Econ and Normal driving modes.
"The CR-Z is a personal sport hybrid coupe for people with a spirit of adventure and an elevated sense of responsibility toward the environment," John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda said when the car was presented. "It's the first hybrid designed to maximize style and fun, in addition to efficiency and economy."
