For some reason, calling a car a “clone” has taken on more of a negative connotation in the modern automotive era, but back in the muscle car era, it was quite common to take a pedestrian version of a muscle car and beef it up to its correct form. The parts are all there, they just weren’t put there by the factory. Such is the case with this particular Ford Mustang Cobra Jet.
Starting life as a 2011 Ford Mustang GT, the owner performed all of the performance and styling upgrades to make this car a dead ringer for a Cobra Jet. Aside from the fact that there was no 2011 model year for the Cobra Jet, the easiest way to tell this beast is a clone is just to see it driving on the street. Since 2008, none of the Cobra Jet Mustangs built by Ford Racing are street legal, which might actually make this car slightly better in the long run – especially when it comes to racing classes that demand a street-legal racecar.

From the cowl-inducted hood and racing slicks to the various decals and stickers, it would be a challenge for most enthusiasts to call this car out as a clone. Of course, the “5.0 Cobra Jet” sticker on the hood is another dead giveaway since all of the pre-2013 Cobra Jets are powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Likewise, the Cobra Jets came with either a two- or four-speed automatic transmission, while this potential daily driver keeps the Mustang GT’s six-speed automatic.

All of the upgrades were professionally installed and actually use Ford Racing parts making this Cobra Jet about as close to production as you can get. In total, the car has less than 16,000 miles (km) on the odometer and even fewer on the upgraded drivetrain components, and the owner is selling this beauty on Racing Junk for $43,700. To us, that seems like a steal.
