2010 Samsung SM3 New Official Photos
"The SM3 will be continued for the time being as there is still demand for the vehicle, but for how long the car will be produced has not yet been decided," Song Eung-seok, program director said back in June, when the SM3 was first shown to the media. "As the target consumers are different for the two cars, there will not be cannibalization between the New SM3 and SM3."
The car uses Renault-Nissan's C-platform and is equipped with a 1.6l H4M engine, mated to a Xtronic continuously variable transmission. According to the manufacturer, it is the only vehicle in its segment in Korea to come with a smart card system that allows drivers to lock and open the door and turn on the ignition by remote control.
As for safety features, they include Electronic Brake Force Distribution-Antilock Braking System and Brake Assist System.
Samsung has shown at the Seoul Motor Show the eMX (Eco Motoring Experience) concept, on which it said the SM3 will be based and indeed, the SM3 has retained some of the design cues seen on the eMX.
According to the manufacturer, 400 engineers from Renault-Samsung facilities in Japan, France and South Korea were involved in the project.
