Both Forte LX and EX rely on a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that generate a maximum power of 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. The SX on the other hand is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 173 horsepower, "more powerful and with better fuel economy than the Mazda3 and Corolla XRS," as Kia emphasized in a release. Kia also released a Fuel Economy Package available for the EX 2.0-liter - five-speed automatic transmission, Motor Drive Power Steering (MPDS), “smart” alternator, silica tires and aero enhancements - which further improves fuel efficiency to 27 and 36 mpg.
